Environmental effluent removal
Our method of trade effluent containment and removal has been developed in accordance with vehicle washing guidelines laid out by the Environment Agency and is compliant with the requirements of regional water and sewage supply companies and is as follows.
Initially a site survey is carried out by your local PVC Vendo franchisee to determine the layout and equipment required for the job in question. Depending upon the location of the drains, this will usually involve the use of portable diverters to direct the water flow to a particular drain or collection point and various drain mats or blockers whichever are more practical to isolate all or any unsuitable drains.
Once cleaning has commenced, the effluent is collected from the collection point by means of a pump and transferred to sealed containers for removal from site by the franchisee. Before leaving your site, the franchisee will issue a signed and dated Waste Transfer Note for your retention.
The effluent removed is then collected from the franchisee's premises and transported for disposal at a designated location where consent to discharge has been issued by Thames Water.
Copies of the following documents are available upon request for our customers:
-
Environment Agency Waste Carriers Licence
-
Consent to discharge held by Head Office
-
Waste Transfer Note

We offer three different types of regular vehicle cleaning - the right method depends on your setup and circumstances, which we will discuss with you prior to work commencing.
Method 1
Where the customer has a foul sewer access within a reasonable (approx 50metre) distance from where the vehicles are to be washed and holds Consent to Discharge for that particular site. The wash area is isolated using a removable barrier to contain and guide effluent to a specific point where it will be pumped directly to the foul sewer. All surface drains in the vicinity will be secured with removable drain mats or plugs, to prevent any possibility of contamination.
Method 2
Where the customer has either no convenient foul sewer access or does not hold Consent to Discharge at their site. Again, the wash area is isolated using a removable barrier to contain and guide the effluent to a specific point, where it will be transferred by means of a pump, to sealed containers and removed from site by the franchisee for proper and legal disposal. As in Method 1, all surface drains in the vicinity will be secured with removable drain mats or plugs to prevent any possibility of contamination. Upon completion of the job, the franchisee will issue a signed and completed Waste Transfer Note for the customer's records.
Method 3
Where the customer has a proper wash area with drainage facilities and the issue is only that of debris entering the system which may cause a blockage or restriction. The drain grate which is to carry away the effluent will be lifted and a removable Drain Filter will be inserted. The grate will then be replaced. The filter will trap and contain any debris or oil/grease residue while still allowing the filtered effluent to pass. Upon completion of work, the grate will be lifted, the filter removed and the grate replaced.
Our unique Waterless cleaning system has been developed to overcome a variety of difficulties:
-
Water use restrictions such as Drought Orders
-
No water supply in vehicle parking area
-
Truck washing prohibited by landlord
-
Inadequate drainage
-
Close proximity to waterways
-
Water jetting not practical
-
Noise restrictions: it's a silent operation
-
Freezing conditions
The average sized box/curtain 7-tonne vehicle is cleaned with two litres of liquid that evaporates.
This system has been designed through demand.
Although our main business is washing truck fleets to regular frequencies using high pressure water jetting equipment, with the usual quantities of water that are required to do so, we can now offer this waterless alternative.
Drain Filters
The Drain Filter relies on highly absorbent X-Tex Filter strips produced from recycled synthetic fibres to remove hydrocarbons, and the 18” deep accumulation pocket collects sediment as stormwater flows through the insert. The low-cost, low-maintenance catch basin filter is ideal for industrial facilities and other areas prone to oil and sediment runoff. The Drain Filter will fit square or rectangular catch basins up to 30” x 40” in size, and also fits round drains up to 30” in diameter. The Drain Filter will absorb up to 1.4 gallons of hydrocarbons.
